Our Lady of La Vang Catholic Parish celebrated their annual feast from Oct. 21 to Oct. 23. Auxillary Bishop Gregory Gordon celebrated the opening Mass for the weekend, and Bishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D. celebrated the closing Mass for the weekend.
The annual festival gathers thousands of Vietnamese Catholics from Las Vegas and surrounding states for a festive gathering of prayer, culture, and food. Bishop Joseph Châu Ngọc Tri, Bishop of Lạng Sơn et Cao Bằng, Vietnam was present for the weekend and also concelebrated Mass with Bishop Thomas on Sunday.
Our Lady of La Vang is a Marian apparition that happened when Catholics were persecuted in Vietnam in the late 18th century. Taking refuge in the rainforest, many became sick. After intense prayer, many reported the apparition of a woman with a child, attributed to the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child. Catholics from Vietnam especially have a devotion to Our Lady of La Vang.
The parish is at 4835 S Pearl St Las Vegas, NV 89121.
