Read Pastoral Reflection on Fiducia Supplicans for the Priests, Deacons, and Faithful of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas by Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D.
May 25, 223 (Ely, NV) — Michael Williams, a native of Ely, Nevada, was ordained a Catholic Deacon on Thursday, May 25th, at 6 pm at Sacred Heart Parish. The Mass of Ordination was celebrated by Bishop Gregory W. Gordon, Auxiliary Bishop of Las Vegas.
"I am blest to have the privilege of ordaining Michael Williams as a deacon. His vocational journey and commitment to his faith are truly inspiring. Michael's love for the Church ad his desire to serve others are evident in his life,” said Bishop Gregory Gordon, Auxiliary Bishop.
Michael's journey toward the diaconate began with his baptism at Sacred Heart Parish in 1995. He was born to Eric and Veronica Williams and raised in a family deeply rooted in the Catholic faith, Michael was inspired to peruse the priesthood at a young age. He was an altar server alongside his two older brothers, James and Daniel, and developed a strong love for the liturgy.
Throughout his education, Michael excelled academically and actively participated in sports, including football and baseball. Despite a busy schedule, he remained dedicated to his Catholic upbringing and serving Mass and adoration.
After graduating as the salutatorian student in his class, Michael faced an unexpected turn of events when the college he had been accepted to closed its doors. With trust in God, he found his way to the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota, where he discovered a Catholic College Community that cultivated faith and vocations.
During his time at the University of Mary, Michael experienced a profound spiritual consolation with the Benedictine cross, confirming his calling to the priesthood and solidified his purpose at the university. He actively engaged in discernment groups, assisted in the establishment of a Knights of Columbus council, and participated in ministries dedicated to serving incarcerated youth.
After years of high academic achievements, and prayerful personal development, Michael Williams will be ordained a deacon. The diaconate ordination marks an important milestone on his journey towards the priesthood. All are invited to join his Friends, family, and members of the community are invited to join in this joyous occasion as he embarks on this step to priesthood.
