September 10, 2023 - The Archdiocese of Las Vegas came together on September 8th and 9th for the 2023 Archdiocesan Conference. Hosted at the Orleans Hotel and Casino, this two-day event was a testament to faith, community, and learning, bringing Catholics from all walks of life together. With the theme "Self-Giving Love/Entregarse Con Amor” attendees embarked on a spiritual journey that left them inspired and connected. The annual conference, organized by Connie Clough and the Department of Faith Formation from the Archdiocese of Las Vegas, featured an array of engaging activities and thought-provoking discussions.
The event kicked off on September 8th with a full day of staff development for Archdiocesan Staff with a warm welcome from Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D., followed by reflections from Julianne Stanz, a nationally known speaker and author. Additional workshops were offered for other conference attendees not employed by the Archdiocese. The heart of the conference was its exceptional speakers, each chosen for their unique insights and spiritual guidance. Notable among them was Fr. Stephen Bell,CSP whose keynote address on "How can Love truly Save Us." Fr. Bell's profound wisdom and charismatic delivery left attendees feeling spiritually renewed and motivated for Saturday’s full day of workshops.
On Saturday, the day began with a prayer service led by Bishop Gregory Gordon, Auxiliary Bishop of Las Vegas. Saturday keynote reflections were given by Julianne Stanz, on "Jesus, Our First and Greatest Love” and Hna. Rosalia Mexa, VDMF on “Nuestra entrega con amor da Esperanza a nuestro mundo.” Their talks were practical reflections with many anecdotes that were a source of inspiration for many.
Throughout the two days, attendees were spoiled for choice with a diverse range of workshops and breakout sessions, covering topics like youth ministry, family spirituality, and social justice. These sessions allowed participants to tailor their experience to their individual needs and interests.
Connie Clough, the driving force behind this successful conference, expressed her gratitude to all those who made it possible saying, "I am deeply grateful to our dedicated team and all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this conference a reality." As the 2023 Archdiocesan Conference came to a close, attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose, strengthened faith, and a commitment to nurturing their spiritual lives and the lives of those around them. The conference closed with a special Mass celebrated by Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D., and was concelebrated by Bishop Gordon and a number of priests.
