Dec. 12, 2024 (LAS VEGAS) — Las Vegas parishes celebrated Our Lady of Guadalupe, bringing together the Catholic community across the city. The feast, commemorating the Blessed Virgen Mary’s 1531 apparition to Saint Juan Diego, included Mañanitas (early morning serenades), reenactments of the apparition, and Masses honoring the Patroness of the Americas.
Auxiliary Bishop Celebrates Misa de Gallo On December 11th, Auxiliary Bishop Gregory W. Gordon celebrated the Misa de Gallo at St. Anne. This midnight Mass drew hundreds for worship, with the Bishop reflecting on Our Lady’s apparition. The celebration included a serenade of mariachis.
Archbishop Leads Feast Day Mass The main celebration took place on December 12th, with Archbishop George Leo Thomas, Ph.D. presiding Mass at St. John Neumann in North Las Vegas. His homily emphasized the enduring relevance of Our Lady’s message, and also highlighted the apparition and some of the hidden symbols in the image on the tilma. The celebration also featured folkloric dancers, called matachinas and Mariachis singing in Spanish and English.
These celebrations showcased the deep faith and cultural heritage of Las Vegas’s Catholic community, reminding all of Our Lady of Guadalupe and her apparition in 1531.
